WHERE'S JAMIE T GONE?

Where's Jamie T Gone?

Remember this guy? He totally changed my life in 2005. Fuck I've never listened to four songs as much as the first four he put out on the 'highly limited and very much sought after' debut EP. From his interviews to his mixtapes (still got them all) he talked about stuff I liked to do. Skateboard (or pretend to) and listen to American (So-Cal) and British (77 and beyond) punk rock. His favourites were the same as mine, Rancid, The Clash, The Specials, Elvis Costello. Hell, Jamie even turned me on to some new stuff (Willy Mason, The Bishops and um Hot Club De Paris).

I stood next to him in 12 bar once but was too scared to say hi. Embarrassing, but not as bad as at Electric Gardens Festival (it doesn't exist anymore) when he played in the tent before Mystery Jets. He came round the back to sign stuff and talk to fans (loads of girls). I just stood there, slightly behind everyone looking like a massive loser. Of course I didn't go up to him. They all knew I was there though, after all you can't not notice someone acting very much like a weirdo. Anyway, his music is fuckin a. Check these VHS copies out.

CHEW LIPS - DO YOU CHEW

CHEW LIPS - DO YOU CHEW

What first drew me to Chew Lips apart from their brilliant name was the girl's fab hair, and then I noticed that their new single is FREE (and there ain't nuthin illegal about it honey). Do You Chew is serving me a slice of chic R&B realness which I really enjoy.

Stay+ Top Ten

Electronic massive Mancunian duo Stay+ (formerly Christian AIDS) have compiled a top ten for us. Featuring The Mahotella Queens, Blue Hawaii and Erykah Badu this playlist makes for an interesting and fucking good listen. Their latest EP dropped back in April and you can hear the lead track Guardian below too.

WILEY & MS. D - HEATWAVE

This afternoon at Beat HQ the topic of conversation was summer jamz (or rather the lack of them in this weather) - songs to dutty wine to repeatedly all summer until you break your back or die of sun stroke. I think Wiley & Ms. D have come up with mine, as I'm practically begging for a Heatwave right now. Or an electric heater, a picture of a palm tree cut out from a magazine, and a thermos of Sainsbury's mojito mix (ewww). This gem is produced by the genius Rymez.
