Press Play on the Grime Heavy Playlist Double S Made Us

Veteran grime emcee Double S (which I’ve literally just learned is also a term used to describe a group of six perfect girls – truly you learn something new everyday) has teamed up with his pal Wiley for his new track ‘Get Paid’.

The Vee Music produced track follows Double S’s previous cllabs with Skepta, JME, Frisco, Tempa T, Chip and Cadet, and comes with a message we can really relate to. Here’s Double S’s take on the track:

The concept came from the fact that I’ve been through many ups and downs in my life, let alone music, but recently I realised my career is in the MUSIC BUSINESS. It’s a 9-5 (plus over time) just like any other job but mine is just on display. As much as I’m having fun doing what I’m doing, I believe what I bring to the table is a great contribution so it’s only right I GET PAID for it.

We asked Double S to put together a playlist and he hit us back with a Grime heavy selection of tasty racks.

▶️ Drake (Feat. Skepta) – ‘Skepta Interlude’

“I had to start the playlist with something from the UK so it only made sense to start it off with a Skepta joint. This song is energetic, wavy and grease/grime to the fullest.”

▶️ Double S (Feat. Wiley) – ‘Get Paid’

“I didn’t pick this song just because it’s my song lol, but because I was able to get the Godfather on it and it’s one of his best verses in my opinion. The song is bubbly and we’re really showing that we can bar on the verses.”

▶️ Kano – ‘Garage Skank’

“This song is Kano in his purest form, it’s such a wave and he’s got all the elements of a banger. It’s catchy, has flow, metaphors etc. It’s classic, like his Home Sweet Home material.”

▶️ JME (Feat. Giggz) – ‘Man Don’t Care’

“Not only is this song a grime banger, I’ve seen what it does to the shows and it really goes off. This song has become a grime classic the more time goes on the beat is crazy as well.”

▶️ The Heavytrackerz (Feat. Double S, Ghetts & J2K) – ‘Wavey’

“This song is one of my favourite Heavytrackerz songs because of the instrumental. On top of that, I was able to get a verse and also spit bars with original wordsmiths Ghetts and J2K. Defo a dope Grime song.”

▶️ Stormzy – ‘Big For Your Boots’

“This song has such a “Welcome to the UK” feel. Like an anthem for London and Stormzy definitely delivered with the bars and vibe. Such an energetic song.”

▶️ Skepta – ‘Man’

“Not only is Skepta holding the flag for the UK at the moment, He won Best Contemporary at the Ivor Novello for ‘Man’. This song was a personal favourite off the Konnichiwa Album.”

▶️ Chipmunk x Stormzy – ‘Hear Dis’

“Chips made a very big lyrical come back the last two years, he’s definitely been going in. Him and Stormzy going back to back on Hear Dis was dope because it reminded me about sets from back in the days, this ones Cold.”

▶️ Ghetts (Feat. Shakka) – ‘Know My Ting’

“Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of Carnival and Festival period. Ghetts was swagging on the tune and Shakka done what he does best and bought the vibe. I’ll definitely be vibsing to this during the summer.”

▶️ Abra Cadabra (Feat. Krept & Konan) – ‘Robbery (Remix)’

“This was the 2016 London anthem. Abra bought that new energy and Krept & Konan delivered on the verses. It’s very hard to lyrically go in on a banger but everyone had their moment on this one.”
