The NX collaboration between Matthew Herbert’s Accidental Records and Goldsmiths University (Goldsmith’s is located in New Cross hence the NX name) is now in its fifth year. If you’re familiar with the previous NX mixtapes you’ll know that they feature new music from the best that Goldsmiths has to offer, all in one comprehensive, totally free, totally downloadable mix.
Since it’s launch in 2013 the NX project has been proudly flying the Goldsmiths flag to showcase the talent of Goldsmiths students and alumni (James Blake, Katy B, FEMME and Rosie Lowe are all former Goldsmiths graduates). In case you missed the previous NX compilations, you can find them all ready to stream and download on their website here.
This years release is curated by Goldsmiths alum La Leif, a producer slash composer who makes up one half of the duo ORKA and runs a collective for female and non-binary music makers and sound enthusiasts called Omnii.
Here’s what Mr Matthew Herbert emailed BEAT to say about the release:
This is the fifth of NX’s annual mixtapes and each one seems to get more diverse both in terms of genre and the artists themselves; 2017’s is no exception and is the most eclectic yet. Rising electronic producer La Leif has done an great job creating the mix as well, not an easy job. One of the fun bits of releasing this is getting to champion a new producer every year and she’s managed to make the whole mixtape both coherent and exciting.
