Åsa Söderqvist aka Swedish anti-pop entity Shitkid is a total head fuck.
Don’t let the bratty nom de plume fool you though because there’s lots to sink your teeth into on debut album Fish (stream it in full below). It’s a heavy dose of what Shitkid calls “drum machine RnR” – think minimal backing with maximum voltage. It’s the sound of someone systematically destroying everything they own, it’s also fully possible that no one has ever sounded like they give less fucks than Shitkid.
What’s your worst habit?
I could take much better care of my teeth.
Who is the most famous person in your phonebook/dm’s?
Hmmmm. I guess Swedish star Sarah Klang.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
That I like cleaning.
What are you scared of?
Is punk dead?
Have you heard ShitKid? :p
If you could go back in time, where and when would you go?
To September 2003 so I could put on a Johnny Cash tribute gig shortly after he died!
What’s your greatest regret?
Don’t think I have any to be honest.
What’s your biggest fail?
All of my drunken blackouts.
What’s your writing process?
I record the drum machine, then I add either guitar or synth and then I usually improvise the lyrics and singing!
What do your family think of your music?
I don’t think it’s something that they’d listen to more than twice. Maybe my sister though. My grandma hates it [laughs].
How would you describe your sound?
Grunge pop! Or drum machine RnR.
What’s your karaoke go-to song?
‘Survivor’ by Destiny’s Child.
How was high school?
It was awesome! I had the best classmates and moved away from home. Boys and parties all the time.
Is sex important to you?
It’s my favourite thing.
What’s the worst thing anyone has ever said to you?
I guess all the guys whose hearts I’ve broken have said mean things and called me a whore or whatever.
What is the closest you’ve ever come to death?
I thought I was going to die from a bug I got in Asia. It only lasted for one night but I locked myself up in a room all alone and had the worst night ever. Never been that sick before.
Have you ever broken the law?
Just some crystal meth once.
When and why did you last cry?
When going home from tour cause we were so stressed out.. me and Linda cried like three times each.
Is celebrity culture going to destroy us all?
I’m surprised it hasn’t saved us more. I think a lot of celebs take politics seriously and try to use their fame in good ways.
Is the glass half full or half empty?
What’s the biggest problem facing humans as a species?
Who or what is the biggest threat to the music industry?
Everyone can get heard today which is a little boring. It would be nice to have more superstars but there’s too many people trying and succeeding. I wish critics would be less easily entertained though.
What would you title your biography?
